Audax UK

Audax UK is the national organisation for long distance cyclists.

Their "Frequently Asked Questions" can be found on their web site (reachable from the link above) where further interesting details can be found about the events they run and how the organisation came about, what Audax means and what a "Brevet" is.

As well as the fun and companionship that we have come to know on the Mere Cycle Ride, Audax riding is about personal challenge and the opportunity from time to time to stretch your own limits. They run events from 50km up to 1400 km (London-Edinburgh-London)

2005 was the first time that we incorporated Audax UK events into the Mere Cycle Ride. We had some regular riders who benefited from the challenge and got themselves Audax UK medals. Well done to them!

We are again running a 50km and a 100km event, and to qualify for an Audax UK Brevet Populaire certificate you must ride the route within minimum and maximum time limits, i.e. not too slow and not too fast. The Audax UK organisation are very strict on their standards in order to ensure that their awards are not devalued.

Non Audax UK members

Non Audax UK members can complete either the 50km or 100km event and obtain an Audax certificate (subject to fulfilling the Audax UK requirements). This certificate will count towards further long distance cycling awards. Audax UK Brevet awards guarantee that the specified distance has been ridden so routes can be over distance but no routes can be under distance (hence why our routes are actually over the 50km and 100km theshold).

The cost of compulsory insurance solely for the duration of the event is just £1 and you will need to complete an application form prior to the day. However, anyone who can produce written evidence of insurance e.g. Cyclist Touring Club or British Cycling insurance will be exempt from paying the £1.

The Audax entry form includes the cost of your completed documentation being sent away for verification, after which the Audax UK organisation will send successful participants the appropriate Audax UK signed Brevet (and a commemorative distance medal subject to an additional fee).

Audax UK members

Audax UK members automatically have the necessary cycle insurance, but must produce their Audax Membership details on the day for checking, otherwise they will have to pay an extra £1.

The entry fee paid through the Audax website does NOT include the commemorative tee shirts (which is included in the normal BHF entry fee). However for an additional £3-50 Audax members may have a tee shirt.

Fees for extras (Only sent after Audax UK HQ have validated Brevet Card)

£3-50 Audax UK Medals

£1-50 Audax UK Date Bars
