Thank you for your efforts in 2006

The day was exceptionally wet so as you can imagine our numbers were down, and as a consequence our money raised was also down. However, in spite of that we have collected over £11,000 which is a magnificent effort by everyone concerned.

Once again we must say a great "Thank You", both to all who took part, and also to everyone who came out and supported us on the day at the various feeding and safety stations. A special thanks must be given to all the children who came back soaked to the skin, but with big beaming smiles lighting up their black spotted faces - it was very heart warming and humbling.

This means that Mere Riders have raised an amazing £66,000 plus between 1999 and 2006 .

Well done to everyone connected with the Mere Cycle Rides during this time.

109km Ride on 29th April 2007

There will be an Audax UK 109km event (To be held on Sunday 29th April 2007). That event will be from Ellesmere to Llyn Efyrnwy (Lake Vrnwy) via Maesbrook and back via Hindford. People will still be asked to ride that for the BHF funds. This date is confirmed with Audax UK the long distance cycling association. Closing date for entries is Mon 16th April.

Note that due to the problems discussed below, there will be no 2007 commemorative tee shirt. The link to the entry form can be found at the "Entry Forms" tab at the top left of this page. Please print out and send with your entry fee to Alan Rowen, 2 Elm Close, Elson Park, Ellesmere, Shropshire, SY12 9PE by Monday 16th April.

Now for an apology - no other distances in 2007

We had hoped to have the website updated much sooner than this, but we have had other things on our plate which have unfortunately taken up our time.

One of the issues was an accident that we had on the day which some of you will have heard of. A rider from Telford was knocked off his bike by an uninsured car that then drove off leaving him needing treatment. Luckily the rider was able to go home by car and get medical treatment near to where he lived, but the paperwork with the police has taken many months.

Partly as a result of this and partly due to other health related factors, some of the organising committee have decided that they cannot continue. You will possibly have seen in the local newspapers that it looks like the 2006 event will be the last short distance "Mere Cycle Ride" held by the branch, unless other people come forward to help with the organisation. However, as shown above, the 109km event will still be held (at least in 2007).
